Bluff PCI Project is one of the many resource companies operating in the Queensland state electorate of Gregory, and we are looking forward to making our contribution count towards the impressive economic benefits that our industry pours into the state coffers.
Reaching to the Northern Territory and South Australian borders, Gregory is the state’s largest of Queensland’s 93 electorates. It covers 459,681 square kilometres and is larger in area than Victoria and Tasmania combined.
The Queensland Resources Council 2017-18 economic contribution data reports that from the Gregory Electorate alone, the resources industry delivered a whopping $2.2 billion in royalties, direct contributions and flow-on benefits, including 13,982 full time and part time jobs. This is a significant contribution, while land mass used to generate this revenue flow remains less than 0.1% across the whole of Queensland.
More detail about the sector’s involvement in Queensland’s economic success is available here.
Although royalty payments are shared across the state to invest in improvements to our roads, our hospitals and medical system, our education industry and law and order, many local businesses and community organisations also benefited from the resources powerhouse.
In the last financial year, $644 million was used for local purchases of goods and services from 687 businesses, and direct contributions to 145 community organisations in the electorate.
And on top of this activity, it’s estimated that resources employees in Gregory Electorate spent an additional $1.1 billion with local businesses in their daily living and working.
We are very proud to be a small part of the growth and prosperity of this world-class industry, contributing high-grade low-volatility PCI coal for the next 10 years, and we are committed to ensuring our local community shares in the benefits.
